Simris Alg landed the first runner-up place in the credible “Sydsvenskans” Business Barometer for 2013 , within the category “Start-up of the year”! As a farming business from the humble parts of South-eastern Sweden, we are super proud to be included with the big guys from Malmö and Lund. And as if that wasn’t enough, Simris Alg was the only start-up company amongst the top ten that were contesting within the “Company of the year” category.
On Thursday, TV channel SVT Sydnytt presented a reportage about Simris Alg and the algae farm in Hammenhög. A shorter version of the segment played in the morning, while the full version was featured in the evening. The news was picked up by several other editors, that ran the same story during Friday.

The government´s Committee for the Future presented their report “The road to a greener future“ during a crowded breakfast meeting at the Swedish National Museum of Science and Technology this morning. The CEO of Simris Alg Fredrika Gullfot participated in a panel discussion about green growth, along with Minister for Enterprise Annie Lööf and Nordic Manager of General Electric, Hans Enocson. The entire event was recorded by the government´s web-TV and can be seen here (Swedish).

Simris is presented as an example of successful companies that have their background from the KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, together with Spotify, Micronic Laser Systems, Tobii Technologies, Atlas Antibodies and others. It was during her time as a research scientist and PhD student at KTH, that Simris’ founder and CEO Fredrika Gullfot got the idea to start the business.

Simris Alg has received the annual Environmental Award granted by the Regional Chamber of Growth in Scania, Southern Sweden. The prize was awarded to our founder, Fredrika Gullfot, for having introduced a new green industry in the region. The prize committee writes, “In the search for renewable energy sources and the transition to sustainable food production, Fredrika Gullfot founded Simris Alg AB, an innovative company which cultivates microalgae for the production of health food.
The Swedish Board of Agriculture has named us one of the hottest companies within green environmental technology, and writes about Simris Alg as an inspirational example from the countryside.
